I press play and "Icy blue" bursts out of the stereo speakers with all its exuberance! A thoroughly ingratiating track, gifted with exceptional appeal - the young and dashing Bloody Mary really could not have chosen a better song as their calling card.
Their offering turns out to be surprisingly captivating, so much so that it makes a subgenre, goth-rock, now pinned against the ropes by a chronic lack of ideas, seem fresh again. "It's too late" and "Before the rain" further confirm the worth of a band that we will have to - I stress, will have to - take into serious account in the future too.
Laden with recognition, one hopes, because our five truly deserve it, as the slower and more considered "Learning to fly" also confirms: a real gem that highlights their more sentimental side and their high skill in writing and performance.
Decadent and lascivious, Bloody Mary claim a leading role; we would be making a colossal mistake not to give them a fair chance.
