The Milanese gothic rock band reaches its third album, after two good efforts in 2006 and 2010. The 10 tracks on the new "Anno Zero" are immediate, hard and well packaged.
The album opens with a sharp strike that leaves its mark (I Keep Pretending) and continues with Crawling, an impetuous and almost elegant writing on the shoreline. The journey through the story goes on with Chase The Vowhere, intriguing for its vocal performance, while Did You Let Me Know is the gothic ballad that rocks black-clad minds to sleep.
Halfway through, electronics take heavy metal by the hand, in the best dark tradition of the 80s and 90s (Concrete Jungle); there are dedications to women (Judith) and songs (Frozen) walking arm in arm with new wave. So Far Away would have been a decent interlude had it been much shorter, and the closing Am I Gonna Miss You is the radio fading out slowly... very slowly (30 minutes...).
Bloody Mary manage to present their music with drive and skill; a pity, though, about the genre, which certainly does not make for easy listening.
